Banned Studio Code Avarice Apologizes, Launches Online Petition

As that old saying goes, it would appear Code Avarice does not intend to go gently into that good night.

After their game Paranautical Activity was pulled from Steam and all ties were cut (due to former co-owner Mike Maulbeck issuing a death threat to Gabe Newell via Twitter), it was revealed that Maulbeck had sold off his stake in the company and would retire from public life. Soon after, Code Avarice published this official statement: “I want to issue a formal apology from Code Avarice to all of you, and the teams at Valve. Especially to Gabe Newell. I am the other Dev of Paranautical Activity and co owner of the Code Avarice studio. Most don’t know that I exist. I have been recently affected by my now (ex) partners lack of civil control and inability to understand that words have consequences. I do not condone what he said. I do not believe he was in anyway justified or entitled to represent our company in this way. I extend my hand to all of you in hopes that you can understand, that to err is human. We have all done it, at one time or another.”

You can read the full mea culpa on the developer’s website , which is quite extensive and covers a broad range of topics (including their hopes of one day putting this behind them and getting back to the business of making games). To do that, they’ll first need to get their Steam ban removed. To help them do that, show your support by signing the online petition found right here.

We’ll keep you posted regarding Steams’ response and if they decided to eventually allow Code Avarice to return.
