Former EA Boss Returns as Unity CEO

Electronic Arts’ former boss, John Riccitiello, who resigned from the bigwig publisher by mutual consent back in march last year, has been appointed CEO of Unity Technologies, the developer behind the Unity graphical engine.

Meanwhile, once Riccitiello settles into his new role, Unity Technologies’ co-founder and former CEO, David Helgason, will be stepping down to serve as the developer’s executive vice president of strategy and communications. Riccitiello has served on Unity Technologies’ board of directors since last November, according to CVG.

Unity has been a hugely positive force in the games industry for years . Unity is more than a great engine or packages of services, it’s an amazing and diverse community of developers, many of which are changing the way we think about game design and production, Riccitiello said.

Unity’s mission – to democratise development – is an important one that I’m very happy to help drive forward, ” he added.

As detailed by CVG, Unity Technologies reports that it serves over 600,000 monthly active developers, be them hobbyists, students, indies or publishers.

We’ll bring you more news on this should further information reaches our ears.
