Sony is Still Working on PS4’s Suspend / Resume Feature

Sony is Still Working on PS4’s Suspend / Resume Feature

When Sony’s PlayStation 4 was first revealed back in February last year, it was pitched that the console would feature a Suspend / Resume functionality, which was described as one of the PlayStation 4’s main advantages. Closing up to four months away until it’s been two years since the console was first revealed, this feature of the current-gen console has yet to be seen.

16 months on since Suspend / Resume was showcased, Sony has revealed in a brief statement that the functionality is still being worked on, and the company emphasized that it wouldn’t be implemented into the PlayStation 4 along with the console’s System Update 2.0.

When speaking with VideoGamer about the functionality, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s vice president of product planning explained that while there’s nothing to announce today, we haven’t stopped working on it.

For those who don’t know, the PlayStation 4’s Suspend / Resume functionality was meant to allow for players to put their console into a low-powered state (“suspending” it), and later resuming to immediately  continue where they left off–similar to how folding a DS over can suspend a game and conserve power, and unfolding the handheld powers up the game and allows you to continue playing without missing a beat.

A date for the PlayStation 4 feature has yet to be confirmed, but at least we now know it’s still somewhere in Sony’s pipeline. We’ll bring you more news on the PlayStation 4 should further information reach our ears.
