The popular gaming streaming service, Twitch, has recently updated is rule of conduct (or its terms and conditions) against a fair number of behavior and clothing concerns, including harassment, hate speech, spam, self-destructive behavior, full nude torso and “ sexually suggestive clothing ”, and more.
“ At Twitch, our mission is to provide the best platform for live video gaming content created by the community at large, wherein broadcasters and viewers can interact in real time, ” Twitch detailed in its newly updated rules of conduct. “ To achieve this goal, we ask that all users participate in such a way that promotes a positive experience for our global audience.
To protect the integrity of our community, as the provider of the service, ” the streaming service continued, “ Twitch employees and global moderators reserve the right to suspend any account at any time for any activity that we deem inappropriate or harmful. You are free to petition your case (we review every petition), but we are not inclined nor required to provide a reason at the time of suspension. ”
Offenders who get suspended for breaking Twitch’s new rules could be suspended for an undetermined amount of time, unless informed otherwise–it’s all up to Twitch’s discretion, really.
One of Twitch’s new rules, the one which outlet seem to be homing in on, is the rule against wearing suggestive clothing or showing off your torso in full. Naturally, as with all rules of this kind, it’s assumed that this rule applies to both male and female streamers.
“ Nerds are sexy, and you’re all magnificent, beautiful creatures, but let’s try and keep this about the games, shall we? ” Twitch wrote on the matter. “ Wearing no clothing or sexually suggestive clothing – including lingerie, swimsuits, pasties, and undergarments – is prohibited, as well as any full nude torsos*, which applies to both male and female broadcasters. You may have a great six-pack, but that’s better shared on the beach during a 2-on-2 volleyball game blasting ‘Playing with the Boys. ’ ”
Where the * is involved, Twitch acknowledges that, yes, sometimes it can be very hot in certain areas, and sometimes theres nothing better than going round (mostly) topless in the house during such conditions. However, if you end up wearing attire that shows off your torso, be it going entirely topless or wearing a bikini top, it’s advised that you crop your webcam to exclude the rest of your body to focus on your face only.
Twitch’s other rules also extend to botting an / or hacking, racism, sexism, homophobia or any other kind of hate speech, spam, breaking the law, streaming games before release without permission, sexually explicit game content, impersonating Twitch staff or volunteers, non-gaming content, and so on.
