Ebola Scare Is Spurring Download of Disease Themed Games

Perhaps one of the funnier stories we have seen come out of the worldwide Ebola scare, apparently when everyone is afraid of catching some sort of plague, people do their research by playing video games. Mobile game Plague Inc. –which is all about creating a virus that manages to effect the world–has seen its sales spike. It has been out for more than two years, but recently it has seen a spike in downloads. It’s download rate has grown more than fifty percent since Ebola took to the news.

“This is the first time something in the real world has has an effect on the sales charts, especially since Ebola came over to America,” Plague Inc. creator James Vaughan told Polygon. “People are curious about it and want to know more about infectious diseases. Plague Inc. can play a role because it’s an intelligent look at how infectious diseases can spread.”
