PS4 Selling Well But Sony Posts a Loss

The PS4 is still winning the console wars this generation, bringing its total unit sales up to 13.5 million units this last September. It sold 3.3 million units in just the last 3 months, bring the usually dry and fruitless summer slump months up to being Sony’s second best quarter this sales year! Revenue for the company is up 7.2 percent, so things are looking good… right?

Not really. Companywide profits aren’t looking so well. Last quarter Sony lost $806 million dollars. PS Vita sales are still down, and the PS TV is getting off to a slow start. Not to mention divisions outside of gaming are still being met with trouble and low sales. Sony also has to eat an impairment charge of $1.58 billion from poor sale in their mobile division (phones, not games).

At this point, Sony’s gaming division is one of their more successful divisions, but it probably can’t carry the whole multi billion dollar company.
