Guilty Gear Xrd is following many other recently released fighting games in its quest to provide a virtual arcade space. GGXRD ’s lobbies will support up to 64 players, according to a recent announcement by Arc System Works. While in this lobby, you can walk around a virtual room, chat with other players, spectate, commentate on matches, participate in online training mode, and of course set up versus rooms. All players in the room can be playing at once, or you can set up a king of the hill style scenario where the loser leaves the virtual arcade position.
But what’s perhaps coolest is a brand new app that will be released alongside the game. The app allows you to schedule online tournaments for the game. It will allow you to create a tournament schedule, rules, check the bracket, check past tournament results, and even enter tournaments of your choosing. When you are entered into an online tournament, you will receive a message when you are up for a tournament match, right to your cell phone. You then have a limited amount of time to get to your PS4 and have your tournament match. This is a first for any fighting game, and hopefully it becomes the standard, as not only will this help online tournament organizers, but it should also help the live tournament scene as well.
