Nintendo Announces New NFC Cards

Nintendo Announces New NFC Cards

Nintendo has recently announced that not everything that will interact with the Wii U’s NFC sensor will be an Amiibo figurine. For example, one of the things that Nintendo is planning to release is a series of Amiibo cards. They would essentially be the same as Amiibo’s just without the figurine. In addition Satoru Iwata also said that there might be some interesting functionality to be had by combining the cards.

“For example, when Amiibo become cards, we can create a game which can be played only by passing several cards over the NFC reader/writer, and the results will be stored in the Amiibo card,” he said. “I cannot discuss any of the details today, but Amiibo has the potential to propose new ways to play card games.”

Nintendo is also thinking of selling smaller and more affordable Amiibo figurines, as well as several other Amiibo products that don’t necessarily come in the form of a figure. They are going to try and push the Wii U’s NFC functionality in the future.
