Activision Responds to Advanced Warfare’s Lack of Share Play

With the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , some players have noticed that the game lacks support for the PlayStation 4’s Share Play feature, which allows for players to play co-op with their friends who may not otherwise have a copy of a given game.

After receiving requests for comment, the game’s publisher, Activision, has explained via an email to Game Informer why the latest addition to the Call of Duty franchise isn’t compatible with Share Play. As it turns out, it’s because the publisher didn’t have access to the Share Play technology before the game launched, but Activision is looking to implement support once it has fully analyzed it.

Delivering a great gaming experience for fans is our top priority. We’re focused on launching Advanced Warfare and ensuring that people have a great time playing it, which our fans seem to be, ” Activision told Game Informer.

Share Play is a new feature that was introduced as part of the recent PS4 firmware 2.00 update, ” Activision continued. Our engineers didn’t have access to it before it launched, so we haven’t had a chance to evaluate it to see how it will impact the experience across all modes of play. Of course we wouldn’t include a feature in our game without having the chance to test it. Once we’ve fully analyzed its performance, we’ll determine how to support it going forward.

Sony admitted during this year’s Gamescom that the Share Play feature will be limited to 60 minutes at a time, but there’s no limit as to how many times you can use this feature after an hour has passed; you’ll need to refresh after 60 minutes are up. It was introduced to the PlayStation 4 with its 2.0 System Update .

Sony’s boss of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, offered up additional details on Share Play, where he compared it to Sony’s streaming service, “PlayStation Now”.

How it works is, for example, say, a friend has a game that I don’t. I ask them to let me play it, and if they send me an invitation, I can access their PS4 and play while watching the video that is streamed.

We’ll bring you more news on Advanced Warfare and Share Play should further information reach our ears
