Sony Announces PlayStation Vue

Sony Announces PlayStation Vue

Sony has just announced a brand new cloud based TV service called PlayStation Vue (pronounced like View.) The service essentially gives you access to TV channels the way that any cable or satellite provider would, except instead of utilizing a cable feed, content is streamed directly to your PlayStation device. Sony says this will reinvent the traditional TV experience, and will change the way we watch TV.

Vue will have a couple extra offerings that normal TV providers do not. For example, Vue will allow you to watch any programming that aired within the last three days, whenever you want, without having to pre-record them on a DVR or anything. You can also record shows to the cloud where they will stay for 28 days, without taking up any space on your console. In addition, Vue will allow you to personalize your experience to your own viewing tastes, utilizing algorithms that will clue you in to programs you might enjoy watching.

Channels available on Vue will include Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Spike, Food Network, Travel Channel, HGTV, Telemundo, BET, Syfy, USA, Fox, NBC, Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, CBS, and more.

Sony is planning to launch a beta soon this November but they haven’t yet announced how to become a aprt of it. The beta will include 75 channels, but will be only a fraction of Vue’s final channel count. Sony has not announced an official pricing for Vue either.
