EA CFO Says Microsoft is Gaining on Sony

EA CFO Says Microsoft is Gaining on Sony

As the old saying goes…“It ain’t over, ‘till it’s over.” That’s certainly Microsoft’s attitude, as they have made a full-court press to win the day this holiday season with drastic price cuts, bundles and coupon deals.

And this drastic move has not gone unnoticed within the industry either. EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen recently commented on the huge sales shift the Xbox One is enjoying at the moment, stating the tide may very well be turning in Microsoft’s favor. “Clearly, Sony has jumped out to a lead with a great console and I think a great pricing strategy. But Microsoft is catching up quickly. And pricing actions that are taking place, particularly within this Christmas season, driven by Microsoft around reductions plus a lot of bundled software, I think will continue to help pull the consumer into the new consoles.” He states.

For a company like EA, seeing both systems succeed is a win-win. According to Jorgensen, when more people begin adopting next-gen systems, it “…minimizes the headwind we’ve seen over the last couple of years of people slowing their purchasing on old consoles in anticipation of buying titles for the new consoles.”

So far, the Xbox One has sold around 10 million units, while its PS4 counterpart has shipped roughly 13 and a half million.
