Redbox Raising Game Rental Prices

Redbox Raising Game Rental Prices

Redbox, one of the only rental companies still allowing you to rent video games, is actually raising their prices. They have recently announced that, in January, the nightly rental rate for games will increase to three dollars from 2. Prices for DVDs and Blu-Rays will also increase.

“The pricing adjustments announced today will allow Redbox to continue to offer consumers high quality movies and games while making investments to enhance the customer experience,” Redbox parent company Outerwall CEO J. Scott Di Valerio said in a statement.

This is very bizarre, as rental services are quickly going the way of the dinosaur. At 3 dollars, a game will be half paid off after a five night rental, making it almost more effective to just buy it on digital platforms. This gets even better if you can find a used copy. Only time will tell whether or not this price hike is a good idea. Let us know whether or not you still rent games in the comments.
