Kickstarter Removes Game That Draws Real Blood

Kickstarter Removes Game That Draws Real Blood

What if when you got injured in a game, you lost blood in real life. No, this isn’t some sort of strange and sadistic torture game. It’s actually a charity project believe it or not.

The game’s name is Blood Sport . Basically, it’s a game in which you would be strapped up to a small needle that is capable of taking your blood. When you take damage in the game, the needle opens and your blood flows into a bag. The process is controlled by a computer, that prevents you from losing more blood than a pre-set limit, basically the same limit for when you give blood at a blood drive. The computer also takes into account your age, weight, and all pre-existing medical conditions.

The idea was to bring this game to gaming events, in order to allow them to double as blood drives. Yes, it was kind of getting it’s publicity off the idea that damage in game can damage you in real life, but the idea was to allow gamers to do what they love while giving back to the medical community. “We are simply creating the gaming hardware that will allow us to get gamers thinking about more important issues while still doing what they love,” the team said. “From there, we’ll partner with the appropriate organizations in both the gaming and medical communities to bring it all to life.”

If there were concerns about Blood Sport ’s computer malfunctioning, you still don’t have to worry. All Blood Sport events would have medical personnel on standby just in case something goes wrong.

The team was set to bring on a lot of celebrities to the project including internet celebrities like PewDiePie and big name celebrities like Conan O’Brian.

But all that is in the past now, as the project has been kicked off of Kickstarter. The project opened on November 18 th , and unfortunately wasn’t doing all that great. It had earned just CA$4,000 out of its CA$250,000 goal. But then suddenly, the Kickstarter was suspended, just this week. The game’s creators and Kickstarter did not comment when approached by CNET.

That’s… mysterious to say the least. Perhaps the Kickstarter was a scam? Perhaps Kickstarter felt a game in which you actively injure yourself, even if it is medically and for a good cause, was in bad taste. Whatever the case, the project is now suspended and this means its likely that everyone who supported it will be getting their money back shortly. It’s a shame though. I would have honestly liked to see this become a thing, and not just for the blood. Anything that involved gamers donating to a good cause is something I’d support.
