Sony Owes Gamers Money Over Vague Ads

Sony Owes Gamers Money Over Vague Ads

The Federal Trade Commission has announced that Sony will settle a dispute pertaining to advertisements made during the PlayStation Vita’s launch. The ads supposedly embellished many of the Vita’s functions. For example, Sony claimed that you would be able to pause PS3 games and resume playing them on the Vita. In reality this was only available in very few games and was largely restricted as to when you could pause and save. The Vita also advertised full remote play capability, but few PS3 titles actually had that. Sony also claimed that the Vita would be able to play over a 3G network if they had the 3G version, and this is largely untrue. Not only that, but many of the games advertised to work via remote play, like Killzone 3 , never actually had this functionality integrated into the game.

As a result, Sony is going to give money to anyone who bought a Vita before June 1 st , 2012. They will be eligible for either a $25 cash rebate, or if they want to spend that money on PlaySation product, they can receive a $50 merchandise voucher. No action needs to be taken in order to redeem this cash. Sony will simply e-mail eligible customers after the FTC and Sony complete their settlement.
