According to a recent interview had between Turtle Rock Studios’– Evolve’s developer–creative director, Phil Robb, and IGN, all maps for the studio’s co-operative asymmetric game’s future DLC map packs will be available to all players free of charge; you won’t have to pay one penny to access the game’s downloadable maps.
Robb believes that giving Evolve players free maps means that no-one will be booted from online play because they didn’t buy the DLC.
” First thing we [ Evolve’s creative leads] said was we can’t break the community up, so all of our maps will be free. We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven’t bought something, ” Robb told IGN in a video interview.
Also during the interview, Robb confirmed that new downloadable content support, i.e. new monsters, new hunters and new maps, is currently planned for Evolve’s post-release. What’s more is that players who don’t buy monster or hunter DLC will still be able to interact with the; even though you don’t own the DLC, the DLC’s content will still be featured in-game if other players have said content.
” We’ll have characters and monsters, and even if you don’t buy them, if your buddy wants to buy the DLC, that’s cool, and your game will be enhanced through his purchase, So, you won’t be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those characters, ” Robb added.
Robb also went on to say that those of you who have pre-ordered Evolve will also receive the first monster DLC for free.
Initially, Evolve was slated to release on Tuesday, October 21 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 , but now the game will launch on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in both the US and UK.
