The Witcher 3 Has Been Delayed (Again) Until May, 2015

The Witcher 3’s first delay was announced back in March this year, when the game’s developer, CD Projekt RED, confirmed that the game would launch in February 2015. CD Projekt RED later explained that it delayed the game so that there would be less competition , and it would give the studio more time to improve the effectiveness of its marketing campaign targeted at those who have yet to become aware of the game.

The game’s second delay, which was announced on Monday, December 8, has pushed The Witcher 3’s launch date a few months after its previously planned release to Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe, ” the developer wrote in an open letter on its official website.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher , key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

CD Projekt RED then added that–with the above in mind–it took another look at the workload that was still left for The Witcher 3 and what it would mean for the development team, and concluded that another 12 weeks was still to be had with all hands on deck before the game could be considered finished.

We owe you an apology, ” the developer went on. “ We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

The Witcher 3 is currently slated to release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
