Special PlayStation 4 Sports New Yakuza Faceplate

Special PlayStation 4 Sports New Yakuza Faceplate

Sony revealed Project SkyLight, a Beta project to introduce interchangeable, videogame-themed faceplates for the PlayStation 4, earlier this month . These faceplates essentially replace the HDD covers on the console–the glossy part of the PlayStation 4’s chassis. Soon thereafter, more faceplates were found, such as the transparent faceplates that reveal the console’s inner hard drive bay and protective housing.

Whilst more faceplates have yet to be announced to be directly related to Project SkyLight, Sony has revealed two new special PlayStation 4s that sport new faceplates themed after the upcoming Yakuza Zero . Coined as the “Kazuma Kiryu Edition” and the “Mashima Goro Edition,” both feature laser-engraved faceplates with designs inspired by the Yakuza tattoo. What’’s the difference between the two? Just the faceplates, really.

The two special consoles will be available in either the PlayStation 4’s Jet Black or Glacier White colors, and will currently set you back ¥41,980 (about $350). The reveal of these consoles may spark the memory of a similar marketing strategy for Yakuza 3 , where an 80GB Ceramic White PlayStation 3 was put on sale with dragon-inspired artwork etched onto its casing.

Slated to release in Japan on Thursday, March 12 next year, buying one of the special PlayStation 4s will reward you with a small discount towards Yakuza Zero . However, plans for a Western release for both the game and the special consoles have yet to be announced.
