Xbox Avatars to be Updated Soon, Job Ad Teases

Microsoft has seemingly become a busy bee when it’s come to job advertisements, but recently its career opportunities that have come to light have teased new projects, such as the recent job ad for a senior software engineer to work with a new Microsoft team on a “top-secret” Kinect project .

Two new career opportunities that have come to our attention relate to the Xbox avatars. Although they’ve been around for the past six years, Microsoft is seemingly wanting to improve them and advance them “to the next level.”

With nods to a “unified operating system”, the believed Windows 10, one of the job descriptions teases that Xbox avatars will be introduced with “higher fidelity” and a “bigger stage in new Xbox experiences.” The other job ad hints towards expanding Xbox avatars “across all of [Microsoft’s] platforms,” mentioning that applicants will be asked to leverage “the power of the Xbox One,” and “the far reach of Windows, and the intimacy of touch on mobile devices.“

This is reinforced with the implication that the Xbox avatar system may be optimized to perform on a wider range of platforms, as the second job ad also describes that applicants will be required to “ensure Avatars are not only gorgeous, but highly performant across a wide scale of devices”

Aside from a focus of updating the visual fidelity and the expansion of the “Avatar ecosystem,” candidates are also responsible for working with others on the “implementation of new features” into the Avatar system.

No matter how you slice it, it looks like Microsoft is wanting to make it so the Xbox avatars will perform and look fantastic on Xbox One, Windows and mobile. Only time will tell as to when consumers will see the fruits of this.
