PS4 Sales Reach 18.5 Million Units

PS4 Sales Reach 18.5 Million Units

Sony has announced that they have now sold more than 18.5 million PS4 units worldwide. The last time we heard them put a hard number on their sales, it was 13.5 million units at the end of October last year. That’s 5 million units in a two month period, which is nothing to scoff at.

Along with this uptick in PS4 sales comes a similar increase in Ps Plus subscribers. The service, priced at 50 dollars a year, went up from 7.9 subscribers to 10.9 subscribers in the same period. Of course, one would think most of these were new PS4 buyers, but that still leaves several new PS4 owners without access to Sony’s online functions.

The PS4 continues to outsell the Xbox One, even despite many setbacks. Sony was having supply issues in Europe, the Xbox One price cut made the Xbox One beat it in monthly sales for the first time ever over the holiday season, a DDOS attack on Christmas caused the PlayStation Network to go down, making every new PS4 owner go without the PS4’s major online components, and more. Still, Sony has a lot of respect in the gaming community, and that respect breeds trust, and that trust seems to be pushing the company forward, even though its roughest sales times.
