PlayStation Vue Will Stream TV to PlayStation Consoles in Q1 2015

PlayStation Vue Will Stream TV to PlayStation Consoles in Q1 2015

Not too dissimilar from Sony’s PlayStation Now, PlayStation Vue is the company’s other streaming service, only instead of streaming games it streams TV shows.

During the company’s conference at this year’s CES, Sony’s president and CEO, Kaz Hirai, revealed when to expect the new streaming service to launch. While he didn’t reveal as specific date, he did say that it would be available in the first quarter of this year.

Previously, the service was only available to those who received an invite to its Beta. With Hirai’s announcement in mind, however, we will probably only have a few more months to wait at most before the service is ready for public consumption.

It’s currently unknown at this point whether or not the service will have a subscription model like PlayStation Now, but what is known is that it’ll be offered up on a month-by-month basis, according to IGN.

When it finally does launch, Sony said last year that the service will come with a package of “around 75 channels per market,” according to Polygon. The package will include both broadcast networks and cable channels from companies like CBS, Fox, NBCUniversal, Viacom and more.

It’s also reported that PlayStation Vue will feature on-demand content, too, which will always keep the previous three days of “popular programming” available. You’ll also be able to filter the service by length, genre, popularity and more if you so desire.

As hinted at earlier, PlayStation Vue is a cloud-based service that’ll stream TV shows, and it’s scheduled to launch on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. After releasing on those two platforms, the service will later branch out to other non-Sony devices, such as the iPad.
