“Minecraft” Second Most Searched Term on YouTube in 2014!

Let it never be said that video games aren’t for everyone! Google just revealed its list of most searched terms for last year, which sees Minecraft top other popular queries like “Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Frozen.”

Google’s Gautam Ramdurai (who is pop culture and gaming insights lead at the company) offered up his analysis as to why a title like Minecraft is so popular on the video sharing site. He points to gaming videos reaching beyond the focus of just our own little community, as they also appeal to the non-gaming crowd as well. “… people who said they watch gaming videos on YouTube revealed that only a portion of this group (37%) considers themselves ‘gamers. When asked about their motivations for watching gaming videos, viewers mentioned ‘entertainment’ and ‘humor’ as often as they mentioned ‘learning new strategies’ or “game tips.” Ramdurai reveals.

If you’re wondering exactly which terms did make the top ten for 2014, here’s the complete breakdown below via Google. You’ll note another popular game-related term “PewDiePie” also made the list:

  1. Music
  2. Minecraft
  3. Movies
  4. Frozen
  5. Drake
