Twitch Music Returns Music to Your Twitch Channel

Twitch Music Returns Music to Your Twitch Channel

Last year, Twitch implemented a new system which can automatically censor a stream if it detects copyrighted material. This resulted in numerous streams that played copyrighted music, even incidentally, getting censored. As a result, most Twitch streams no longer feature music of any kind, and sometimes they even mute game audio just to be sure. So, to help fix this problem, Twitch has launched Twitch Music, a service that is attempting to make clear which music can and cannot be used.

Twitch Music is a library of over 500 pre cleared songs from “established and burgeoning labels, including Mad Decent, Dim Mak, Spinnin’ Records, OWSLA, Monstercat, Fool’s Gold, and many more.” These songs can be used on streams and in replays without fear of censorship. Any artist that wants to add their music to the Twitch.TV library can do so, though they need to be the copyright holders, and they need to be popular enough to be counted as a music producer. The guidelines set was over 250,000 subscribers or followers on YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter.

Unfortunately most of this music is EDM which can get… a little droning after a while. Here is hoping some up and coming artists will help vary up the library soon. I would love to see some Ninja Sex Party on that list.
