Scoring 275k Points in League of Legends Will put a Champion in the Sea

Scoring 275k Points in League of Legends Will put a Champion in the Sea

To celebrate Australia Day and New Zealand’s Waitangi Day (which occur annually on January 26 and February 6 respectively), League of Legends developer Riot Games has unveil details on its planned Ocean Week, which is an event that aims to encourage a community-wide goal to unlock rewards such as Influence Points boosts, legendary skins and more. If the community generates enough points, Riot Games will even immortalize a community-chosen watery-oriented champion by sinking a dedicated artificial reef into the sea.

There are five tiers of rewards to unlock during the Oceanic Week. Scoring 30,000 points will unlock eight additional slots for the free champion rotation, making 20 champions temporarily available for free. At 90,000 points, four Influence Points Boosts will be given to all participants who contributed at least one point to the total pot before this tier is reached. 130,000 points will temporarily unlock four water-themed legacy skins: Scuba Gragas, Sailor Gangplank, Frozen Shen and Angler Jax. 175,000 points will unlock an increased chance (2x) of acquiring a legendary skin when buying a mystery gift. Finally, a total of 275,000 community-contributed points will prompt Riot Games to create a champion-theme artificial reef for underwater life to inhabit. If an individual player scores at least three points before this tier is reached, their Summoner Name will be etched onto the statue before it is dropped to the bottom of the sea. Reaching this tier will trigger a community vote of who that statue will be dedicated to: Fizz, Nami or Nautilus.

Everyone who participates in the event will have to contribute points to unlock the rewards for everyone involved. To do this, players will have to win a match with an Ocean Week-designated champion, which will be made available in two waves. Ocean Week will kick off on Friday, January 23 and will run through to the end of the month on Friday, January 30. Regardless of what tier of goodies unlocked during this time, all of the sales and rewards made available will last up until Sunday, February 8.

It’s implied that players will automatically contribute one point for each win of a Blind Pick, Team Builder or Twisted Treeline matches only, but they won’t all necessarily have to play an Ocean Week champion in order for the point to be valid. If one team member is playing an Ocean Week-designated champion, everyone else on that team will also generate one point in addition to the point contributed by the player who picked the Ocean Week champion. Each player can only generate one point per win, with a maximum of three or five points being contributed by each winning team (depending on the gamemode). Ranked gamemodes, ARAM, Co-op versus AI and custom games are not eligible for Ocean Week–the winning team on either of these matchups will not generate points.

The first wave of Ocean Week champions will replace the normal free-week rotation. The second wave of champions will still contribute towards the overall pot, but they won’t be free in the weekly champion rotation until the first tier of rewards (30,000 points) is reached. Both waves of champions are as follows. Additional information on the Ocean Week event can also be found via the source link below.
