Smash Bros Tournament Organizer Steps Down After Sexual Harassment Allegations

Smash Bros Tournament Organizer Steps Down After Sexual Harassment Allegations

Johnathan “Alex Strife” Lugo will not be involved in the Smash Bros. tournament scene much longer. He recently stepped down from an organizational position for Apex, one of the biggest Smash Bros. tournaments in America.

Apex was going to partner with Nintendo for the first time ever this year, which is pretty huge to be completely honest. Nintendo isn’t known for openly sponsoring Smash Bros. fighting game tournaments. But this partnership comes with a standard that Apex has to hold themselves to, and with sexual harassment allegations being laid on Lugo, he had no choice but to step down.

“At this time, Alex Strife will be stepping down from his duties at Apex. We will be moving forward with Apex 2015,” the tournament’s organizers said in a statement. “As it stands Apex 2015 is the largest Smash Brothers tournament ever and the Apex staff hopes to bring you the best experience we can.”

Kotaku has a lengthy list of the allegations, involving both sexual harassment and abuse of power. Lugo has currently made no comment.
