Elite: Dangerous Players Experiencing Phantom Interdictors

Elite: Dangerous Players Experiencing Phantom Interdictors

Elite: Dangerous players are experiencing instances where they randomly drop out of supercruise (the apparent in-game term for warp speed) as if they were being forcibly brought to a standstill by a nearby interdictor assailant, but discover that there aren’t any hostile ships when returning to normal space. As it turns out, these instances are actually a bug.

Referred to as a “ghost interdiction”, Elite: Dangerous’ lead designer, Sandro Sammarco, advises that players should submit a ticket whenever they experience this scenario. Sammarco explained in a thread post that, in general, if an interdiction completes then both ships should be pushed into the same space, even if the interdiction itself ends in either the interdictor winning or because of submission. “I can’t really think of any circumstance where this should not be the case,” the designer added. Sammarco didn’t mention when this issue would be fixed, but it’s inferred that changes and fixes to the game will be delivered at some point in the future.

Also in the same forum post, Sammarco addressed other issues that players have reported in Elite: Dangerous . The developer detai led that Frontier Developments, the studio behind the game, is currently looking into two potential solutions to allow for player ships to “submit then charge their frame shift five seconds later.” The game’s chaff launcher capacity will also be reduced, with chaff ammunition being bumped up in price. The developer is also working on ways to make in-game murder more series, while also figuring out new ways for players to interact with each other who aren’t interested in PvP.
