Crowfall Dev Reveals Character Creation Preview

Crowfall Dev Reveals Character Creation Preview

Following its announcement last week, Crowfall developer ArtCraft Entertainment has revealed information regarding the MMO’s character creation system. After publishing the first of two promised images the day after the game’s announcement, the developer has now unveiled the second image of what Crowfall’s character creation system currently looks like in its pre-Alpha state.

The new, second image shows a glimpse of what ArtCraft Entertainment coins as the Advantages and Disadvantages system, which is the studio confirms is a direct descendent of the talents and traits system from Shadowbane . As seen above, the “runes” that players will apparently be able to apply to their character are suggested to affect said character both positively and negatively. As indicated by the sigils and blank dots in the bottom-right of the image, players will seemingly have a maximum number of runes that can be applied to their character. Depending on the runes chosen, the character’s Attributes and Statistics will change accordingly.

The first image showed off the various archetypes that may feature in the final version of the game (although more are implied due to the inclusion of a scroll bar). The showcased archetype was the Knight, and displayed alongside it was its related Attributes and Statistics, with additional information implied thanks to another scroll bar. The image also showed off a creation points counter, implying that players may have a set number of points to spend on customizing their characters when Crowfall launches.

In both images, ArtCraft Entertainment confirms that fully functional prototypes were used, with “ actual 2D and 3D game assets.” It’s implied that both of the featured characters were also fully modeled and animated. However, the developer is already working on redoing Crowfall’s character creation system, as it is “looking for ways to further streamline the interface.” It’s promised that the next update on the system will include three pages rather than two, so as to split off the appearance customization part of the system into its own segment.

Featured on the official Crowfall website, there is a countdown ticking towards an upcoming announcement, which is promised be shared with the young Crowfall community. For now, not much is known about the MMO at all, other than its genre, its title, the developer and people behind it and some images. ArtCraft Entertainment’s main goal with Crowfall is to “push the design of Massively Multiplayer Online games in bold new directions.”
