Dark Souls On Steam is No Longer Region Locked

Dark Souls On Steam is No Longer Region Locked

The PC port of From Software’s Dark Souls , dubbed Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition , has had its region lock removed by its publisher Bandai Namco. Announced in a recent Steam post that was published earlier on this week by Bandai Namco Games Europe’s community manager Anthony Grabit, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition players will now be able to play multiplayer with other players outside their own region.

“A nice fix is available for all players since January 19th 2015 to completely remove the infamous multiplayer region lock in Dark souls: Prepare to [Die Edition] ,” Grabit announced. The legitimacy of this post was confirmed to Eurogamer by Bandai Namco itself. An official patch for the game has since been rolled out.

The update to the game also fixed a crash that would occasionally occur whenever opening the Book of Guilt. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will have been automatically updated if Steam users have enabled the auto-update option. Last year, it was also announced that Namco Bandai would remove the game’s ties with Games for Windows Live. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition has since been migrated to Steamworks. The game is available via Steam for $19.99 / £19.99.
