Project Spartan, Internet Explorer’s Successor, Revealed

Project Spartan, Internet Explorer’s Successor, Revealed

Microsoft is working on a brand new web browser, and it’s not just another Internet Explorer. They have called the browser Project Spartan which I can only hope is a Halo reference.

Project Spartan allows your browsing experience to be interactive. For example, you can leave annotations on websites for further visits. So say you visit this page and want to include a download link to the browser when it releases, you can do that and every time you view this page you will have that annotation.

The new browser also lets users share webpages. While this may seem simple as you can always share webpage links, Project Spartan will actually allow you to share snippets of the web page itself, complete with fully functioning link and code. This is very useful for say, sharing flash based web games.

Perhaps most interesting, is a new browsing mode that will strip out all ads. Of course, we have all had adblock for a while, but this is the first time that a browser will have it built in. Does this mean our models of online advertisement may have to change in the future? It’s something to think of.

Project Spartan will ship with Windows 10 later this year. Windows 7 or up users will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free for the first year.
