Cloud-based Tidbits Revealed for New Crackdown on Xbox One

A small amount of information regarding the next Crackdown installment for the Xbox One was revealed in a NeoGAF post recently, with its poster being a verified developer of the Cloudgine game engine. The engine will be what powers the cloud-based features of the Xbox One reboot, but the Cloudgine developer–Kampfheld–confirmed that it’ll only be powering the technical side of Crackdown , the side that’ll be utilizing the cloud-based engine. It’ll be the same deal for other games that may use Cloudgine as well.

Although specific information wasn’t touched on for t he third Crackdown game to the series was revealed at 2014’s E3 press conference , it was indicated that the new installment will be “heavily supported” with the cloud, implying an always-online requirement. Kampfheld understands that some gamers will have huge doubts towards a game being constantly connected a cloud-based game engine, but the Cloudgine team is wanting to nonetheless deliver on making such a requirement an advantage. More information is promised for later on this year. The actual developer working on the Crackdown reboot has still yet to be revealed.

I think we always communicated it that way and there is no reason not to be honest here,” Kampfheld explained. “If you want to deliver something that has never been done before in that kind of scale, then you can not make compromises.” They added that there are “huge risks” involved with an always-online cloud connection, but the “super confident” team behind Cloudgine apparently “can’t wait to get of the dark” with their product. It’s promised that small technical snippets may be revealed in the next few weeks as well.
