1,800 Minecraft Passwords Compromised

1,800 Minecraft Passwords Compromised

Sometimes you don’t have to be hacked in order to have you personal information leaked online. Earlier this week, German publication Heise reported that 1,800 Minecraft accounts were compromised but contrary to earlier reports, no hack has occurred.

Instead, Mojang’s Owen Hill has explained that the compromised accounts were not a result of a hack, but a result of a phishing scheme. A number of false e-mails were sent around to Minecraft players, asking them to put in their password info. This is just plain old scamming, not a matter of hacking prowess.

“No-one has gained access to the Mojang mainframe,” Hill said. “Even if they did, we store your passwords in a super encrypted format. Honestly, you don’t need to panic.”

But if you really feel like you are in danger, just change your password.
