Witcher 3 Dev Talks What it’ll be Like Playing Ciri

In an interview with VG24/7, level designer Miles Tost spoke at length about CD Projekt RED’s forthcoming installment to the Witcher series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . Among the topics discussed was what players may expect when they play as the game’s female character Ciri, as well as addressing the game’s delayed release and non-scaling enemies.

In terms of how the narrative of the game will flow, players will see Ciri during flashback sequences. These flashbacks are implied to be triggered whenever Geralt (the main protagonist) receives new information on Ciri during his journey. “ In some of these segments you might get to play [as Ciri] and see things from a different perspective,” Tost added. This different perspective will be Ciri’s own, where players will be able to don her role and play as Ciri until the flashback itself has concluded. Some situations with Ciri will follow a more linear path, but it wasn’t discounted that some segments may be more open. That being said, players won’t be able to venture off and do side-quests as Ciri, they will only be able to follow her pre-defined objectives.

The Witcher 3 is complete as far as content is concerned, Tost later confirmed to VG24/7, indicating that the third Witcher game will meet its new May release date . Enemies won’t scale in relation to the player’s level either, because the developer thinks that achieving certain things in-game won’t feel as much as an accomplishment it all the enemies scale with the player.

“Ultimately an RPG is not only about being the best but the journey to become better. That journey to getting better is a larger part than being the best,” Tost explained. “That sense of improvement doesn’t happen if the monsters around you remain the same strength, there’s no sense of achievement. ‘I got the legendary armour and the best sword and I’m level 5 million and yet this wolf just killed me’. That shouldn’t happen to a seasoned warrior.”
