Feminist Frequency to Air Two New Series

Feminist Frequency to Air Two New Series

Anita Sarkeesian, creator and runner of Feminist Frequency, has repeatedly come under fire by critics that say that she is ignoring positive representations of women in gaming, as well as negative representations of men. Well, as if in response to these critics, she has announced two more shows that will run alongside her current series “Tropes vs. Women.” The first will examine representations of men and masculinity in games, and the second will examine positive portrayals of women in games.

This expansion comes from a recent influx of donations, over $400,000 last year alone, with over half of that being raised in just December.

“My vision for Feminist Frequency was to bring discussions of feminist theory to a wider audience by way of popular culture. I would never have guessed back in 2009 that Feminist Frequency would officially become a non-profit organization and play a significant public role in shaping conversations about media engagement and online abuse,” she wrote in the annual report.

“As a result, we have expanded Feminist Frequency’s mission to include advocacy around ending online hate and abuse, analyzing, and advancing awareness of how gendered harassment operates online.”

“Throughout all of the turbulent ups and downs of 2014, we held onto the warmth and support from our viewers and fans. The overwhelming number of supportive messages, emails, and tweets reminds us of how important this work is and how much of an impact we are making.”

Feminist Frequency is also hiring for help on these new shows. So if you think you would like to write for them, give them a ring.
