Spotify Partners with Sony to Bring Music to PlayStation

Spotify Partners with Sony to Bring Music to PlayStation

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 gamers will soon receive the music digital platform Spotify as an exclusive partner to Sony’s newly announced PlayStation Music. It’s suggested to replace the Music Unlimited service, which is scheduled to shut down in all of its eligible 19 countries on Saturday, March 29 this year. Spotify will be introduced to the PlayStation Network this coming spring in 41 markets around the world, nearly all of which reside with the 19 aforementioned countries–including the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. The new music service will first launch on Sony’s console platforms, and will then release on the company’s Xperia smartphones and tablets later on in the year.

Users will be able to use and link their existing Spotify accounts when the service becomes available on PlayStation Music. Like the digital platform, both subscribed and unsubscribed Spotify users will be able to listen to their music and playlists; free users will have to bear with ads, while premium members won’t have to worry about their music being interrupted. Regardless of what kind of account users have, they will still be able to play over 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists whilst playing games.

Spotify’s launch on the PlayStation Network will also bring with it some exclusive features as well, the details of which will be shared closer to when the service actually becomes available on PlayStation Music. Current Music Unlimited users with an active subscription as of Saturday, February 28 will also receive “up to 30 days of free access” prior to the service’s closure.
