NBA 2k15 Includes Spoilers For Game of Thrones and 24 and It’s Brilliant

NBA 2k15 Includes Spoilers For Game of Thrones and 24 and It’s Brilliant

In NBA 2k15 ’s My GM mode, players can talk with their manager about how the team is being run, where the team is going, and more. It’s kind of like a basketball manager RPG and its very text heavy. 2K went to great lengths to make these conversations seem realistic… perhaps a bit too realistic.

Apparently these conversations include major spoilers for shows like Game of Thrones and 24 . In fact, some of the Game of Thrones spoilers were for events that haven’t even made it to the big screen yet! These are serious spoilers too, about important character deaths and major turning points in the story.

A 2K representative explained their decision to include said spoilers in the following statement:

“As you know, MyGM is a very text-heavy mode; our conversation engine dominates the end-user experience,” the representative said. “My intent for the conversations are to be culturally relevant, and entertaining for the users. We have cleverly intertwined assorted pop culture references in the experience to bring a smile or even a laugh to our users. When you are reading line after line of text, you need to break it up with some light-hearted humor.”

“There are actually very few lines in the script that can be considered ‘spoilers’. Specifically on the Game of Thrones mention(s), we take care to ensure that only references from the aired shows on HBO are mentioned. We do not include references from the books that are yet to be brought to the small screen. Essentially, everything we talk about is widely available for consumer consumption.”

Honestly? I love it! I always thought spoilers were silly, and this is perhaps one of the biggest and most well executed trolls ever. They don’t appear as if they will be taking out the spoilers, so anyone who plays their game runs the risk of figuring out what happens in several different important contemporary pieces of media.

Hat’s off to you 2K. I sure hope this was intentional.
