Disgaea is well known for sporting graphics that look like they are a generation old, but gameplay that will last for hours on end. Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is no different, except maybe this time around it’s going for two generations old. Nippon Ichi Software recently confirmed that the game will be a PS4 exclusive, with no PS3 version to speak of, despite rumors to the contrary. Yes, the game still uses sprite graphics on simplistic polygonal maps. Doesn’t matter. PS4 exclusive.
The new Disgaea will feature several new systems. First of all, one hundred characters can be shown on screen at the same time, which is a huge increase from previous titles. You can basically have gigantic army battles with nearly everyone in your base participating at once. Characters can now use fusion skills by standing next to a character of the same class. A new affinity system will increase character stats based on how much they like each other, and can trigger a new “revenge” state when characters with a high enough affinity die. There will also be fourty different classes and monsters to choose from, each with multiple ranks, when making a character.
Disgaea 5 will come out on March 26, 2015 in Japan and is slated for a release in the third quarter this year in North America.
