Microsoft States They’ll Never Stop Information Leaks

In this day and age where every facet of business and our personal lives are documented and tracked via one technological element or another, cyber-threats have become a way of life. But must we simply except these inevitable risks?

Microsoft certainly thinks so. In a recent interview during the Inner Circle podcast, Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg talked about how the leaking of information (while harmful) is a runaway train that will unfortunately never be stopped. Alluding to leaks as something that just “happens in technology,” Greenberg reveals, “…iPhones leak, new TV models leak, and games leak. It’s just the nature of the business. It happens. We don’t plan for it. It’s usually unexpected.”

But are corporations and consumers alike now subject to just embracing the status quo, never hoping for better security? Microsoft’s suggestion is seemingly to ignore the problem. Their current strategy of not lending credence to every internet rumor that pops up suggests this will help discourage internet trolls more quickly.

“With the Internet and with so many people trying to guess what you’re doing or speculate on what you’re doing, quite often a lot of the things that appear as leaks either are not true at all or a lot of the information is wrong, but some of it might be right. Then there’s stuff that’s just 100 percent right. It’s out of our control,” Greenberg states.
