New Study Shows Why Gamers Buy Consoles

A recent Nielsen report has returned some interesting data on the console wars. Speciically it shows people’s motivations for purchasing each of the consoles that are on the market right now, and surprisingly enough each console is purchased with completely different motivations in mind.

The top five reasons for purchasing a Playstation 4 lead off with the console’s better resolution, for all the graphics-heads out there. The fact that it’s a Blu-Ray player also factors in, for anyone looking to use their console as a media center. Game library, which you would think was actually a priority for a game console, actually comes in at number 3, followed by faster processing power, and finally “what the family wants” comes in at number 5, which surprisingly enough shows that the PS4 may be a better family console than the Wi U.

The Xbox One on the other hand is primarily bought for its brand. So Xbox 360 users are more likely to upgrade to an Xbox One simply for the name. Its features, processing power, and exclusive games come next, and “fun factor” is the fifth reason why people purchase an Xbox One. Maybe the console is just more fun to use? I guess with the Kinect that makes sense.

The Wii U’s primary reason for purchase is fun factor, which I guess makes sense for the Mario themed console. It was also purchased because it was better for kids, cheaper than other consoles, is backwards compatible, and has a long list of exclusive games and content.

So, in short, if you want power get the PS4, if you want brand loyalty, get an Xbox One, and if you wan console exclusives at a cheap price, get the Wii U.
