Evolution Studios Lays Off Half of its Staff After Driveclub Fiasco

Earlier today, Eurogamer reported on a story confirming that Evolution Studios has laid off approximately half of its staff after a Driveclub launch period that could fairly be described as disasterous. Sony has also released a formal statement on the matter mentioning that staff is being restructured to better focus on the long delayed PlayStation Plus edition of the game.

Driveclub is a first-party title for the PlayStation 4 that launched poorly last October, but has since received several notable improvements across the board through patch updates. Evolution Studios has promised to help former members of the team by recommending them for roles with other Sony owned and operated studios.

While I’m glad that we are still getting a PS Plus edition of Driveclub , I’m definitely not happy to hear that this will come at the cost of jobs. Truthfully, this is a game that needed more development time and resources and I’m disappointed that Sony wasn’t willing to delay the game further to perfect it. Hopefully they can learn from this mistake now and we can all get better games in the future as a result.

What do you all make of these layoffs over at Evolution Studios? Please feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
