Yesterday, TIME published an interesting interview in which Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata outright denied that a Legend of Zelda TV series is currently in the works. He stated that the news is a rumor and that he doesn’t have any insight to share on the use of their IPs for TV shows and films.
An article on the Wall Street Journal originally suggested that a Zelda show was in the works and will be a family friendly version of Game of Thrones . Netflix was listed as an active partner in the deal, but no additional news has been reported since this article surfaced.
Now that Nintendo is focusing on the mobile games market and creating a new piece of hardware, it seems like this deal may not be needed. If the company makes perfect use of both ventures, they will raise sales across the board and get back to being a true force in the industry.
