Mortal Kombat X Noises Made With Goo and a Plunger

Mortal Kombat X Noises Made With Goo and a Plunger

Have you ever wondered where all those sick organ crushing noises in Mortal Kombat come from? Well, now we know! The Mortal Kombat team has given us an inside look at how the sound design team got just the right sound of a heart being crushed.  The answer? A giant bucket filled with some sort of green goo, which is likely legally distinct from Nickelodeon Gak, and a plunger.

In the latest KombatKast, the crew of Mortal Kombat X showed how they would splat goo on the ground, blow bubbles in it, suck it with a plunger, and generally just play around with it in order to get all the wet slurping bloody sounds that you hear in fatalities and x-ray attacks. It also produced the somewhat hilarious side effect of making fart noises every now and again.

But don’t take our word for it. Check out the official video here and see all the wonderful goo sucking plunging action.

This is actually a bigger deal than you think. Most sound effects for games are just stock sound effects that you can purchase from any sound library. It is very rare that a development team actually goes through the lengths to create their own sound effects in a sound studio.  That just goes to show you the level of dedication that the Mortal Kombat X team has. Or maybe they just really enjoy playing with something legally distinct from Nickelodeon Gak.
