Australia Is Letting Kids Design a National Park in Minecraft

Minecraft is an amazing platform to be creative, and now South Australia’s state government is essentially using it to crowdsource creativity for a new national park project. Who are they crowdsourcing it from? Grammar school students. Expect a lot of penis-shaped layouts.

The winning child’s park design will influence the spending of the AUS national park budget. They are hoping to see interesting paths through the wood and clear meadows for picnic areas. They were inspired by the incredible Minecraft worlds that people take months to build. Unfortunately these masterpieces tend to be made by people older than nine.

“The parks they design as part of this competition might include trails for bushwalking, mountain biking or horse riding, barbecue and picnic areas, public toilets, wheelchair accessible areas, campgrounds, scenic lookouts, adventure playgrounds, interpretive trails, places to launch canoes – or something completely different,”  said Sustainability, Environment and Conservation Minister Ian Hunter.

“Whatever they create on the screen needs to be able to be translated into the real world.”

Well, best of luck to you Australia, and hey, if it doesn’t work out, I have a Minecraft forest shaped like Christian Bale’s face for you to use! Let’s see a nine year old beat that!
