Steam Encounters Huge Currency Error

Steam Encounters Huge Currency Error

Steam has recently encountered an error that has grossly misrepresented prices on several products. The error involved currency exchange between the American Dollar and he Indonesian Rupiah. The error listed the dollar as roughly equivalent to the rupiah. It is, unfortunately not, as one dollar is worth a whopping 13,000 rupiahs.

As a result, prices all over the Steam Community Market were totally thrown off. People using the rupiah were able to purchase items at a fraction of the actual price. Meanwhile, people using the dollar found some items listed at ludicrous prices, such as one Counter-Strike: Global Offensive item which cost over 3.5 million dollars.

As a result, Valve had to take the Steam trading and Community Market offline for a while. Steam has attempted to revert as many of these purchases as possible, but the fallout hasn’t yet settled.

“A relatively small set of users have one or more transactions where the item was restored back to the seller, but the wallet funds have not yet been returned to the buyer. We are still working to resolve this issue and appreciate your patience while we sort everything out,” said Valve in a statement.

In addition, Valve also has to fix problems with the Steam wallet, where adding currency using rupiahs caused the incorrect amount of cash to be added.
