Consumer Model of Oculus Rift to Launch in 2016

Consumer Model of Oculus Rift to Launch in 2016

It is finally time for consumers to get their hands on the Oculus Rift… next year. Oculus VR revealed today that the consumer model of the Oculus Rift VR Headset will be ready to ship in 2016. Pre-orders for the headset will be taken later this year, though the specific date when pre-orders will open has not yet been announced.

This makes the Oculus Rift fall in line with other VR headsets and their release dates. Sony’s PlayStation 4 headset, Project Morpheus, will also be launching in the first half of 2016.

Unfortunately, full specs on the consumer model of the Oculus Rift are not yet available. However, more information on the consumer model will be coming in the next few weeks. The last time we heard rumors about this model, Oculus speculated that it would be sold somewhere in the two hundred to four hundred dollar range, but that hasn’t yet been confirmed. The current developer kit for the Oculus Rift is available for $350.

We will bring you more information on the Oculus Rift as it becomes available.
