Blizzard Cracking Down on World of Warcraft Bots

Blizzard Cracking Down on World of Warcraft Bots

Blizzard is banning users who are using World of Warcraft bots. When you think of bots, you usually think of characters that auto fight and auto level while you aren’t at the computer. However, Blizzard has said that the definition extends beyond that.

“Botting is defined as automation of any action, not just character movement. If a program is pressing keys for you, you’ve violated the ToU.”

This can be seen in actions taken against players who are using the program HonorBuddy. HonorBuddy runs around collecting Honor in PvP without engaging anyone in combat. While it’s not quite a leveling program, it is an action automater. Players using the program have been banned for six months.

“We’re committed to providing an equal and fair playing field for everyone in World of Warcraft,” said Blizzard.

“[We] will continue to take action against those found in violation of our Terms of Use. Cheating of any form will not be tolerated.”

One has to wonder whether or not these bands will extend to action automaters that make it easier to use actions when their cooldown rates refresh in battle, or perhaps even U.I. mods.
