Capcom has recently said that HD Remakes are an important part of its business. Despite fan cry to see new IPs or at the very least new installments of old IPs, Capcom’s reps have said that HD remakes are a core part of their business that has been making them quite a bit of money, especially overseas. This comes from a recent financial briefing Q and A in which it was stated:
“HD remasters of our catalogue hit titles will be one of our key business activities … [digital sales] created new demand for these titles. For example, overseas download sales of “Resident Evil” (HD Remastered) in the past fiscal year were far higher than we expected. ”
“It is not a risk but rather the growth of the download sales channel gives users more options. We regard this as growth in opportunities to have allow access for more people to enjoy our games.”
Resident Evil HD Remaster was Capcom’s biggest selling day one digital title, moreso than any original IP, however official sales numbers for the game were not given.
