The Nintendo NX May Run on Android

The Nintendo NX May Run on Android

According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, the Nintendo NX may use Google’s Android platform as its operating system.  Why?

Well, Nintendo has been commenting on how it’s difficult for third parties to move from developing software for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and even tablets to Nintendo’s own consoles. As such, developers tend to make spin-off titles for the Wii U, which usually don’t sell as well because they aren’t giving gamers the same gameplay experience as the main line game. Not only that, but having to develop two completely different titles (or even a title and a port) causes development costs to skyrocket.

Switching to Android would remedy this. However, bear in mind that this is only a rumor at this point. Nintendo has not confirmed anything about the NX, including what it’s operating system would run on.

The NX will not be shown at E3 this year, leaving us to continue to wonder about what this mystery console might be.
