Tale of Tales Effectively Shuts Down

Tale of Tales is a small studio run by the husband and wife duo of Michaël Samyn and Auriea Harvey. Recently they let it be known that as of now, they’ll no longer be developing commercially-released video games. This comes hot on the heels of their first major market release, Sunset , underperforming in the marketplace. While Tale of Tales is most well-known for experimental art-house style games that have been free to play, Sunset was their first shot at the big time, and unfortuantely their gamble didn’t pay off.

As with all studio closings, it’s unfortunate, but the duo gave it their all. A game like Sunset , which is slow-paced and high-concept as they come (you play as a maid during a political revolution in the late-70’s), isn’t something that’s easy to sell to the masses, and I can’t say I’m surprised it wasn’t the runaway hit they were banking on. Samyn and Harvey have said while games aren’t entirely out of the question in the future, they’re moving on to other art forms. Best of luck.
