Miyamoto Talks Candidly About The Wii U And Future Nintendo Console

The Wii U hasn’t had an easy road since it was first released a few years ago. While last year was somewhat of an upswing for Nintendo’s console-that-could (with titles like Mario Kart 8 , Smash Brothers , and Bayonetta 2 ), 2015 has been sparse and continues to look that way heading into 2016. In a recent interview with Fortune magazine, Shigeru Miyamoto opened up about the Wii U’s struggles.

In the face of a console that has yet to move even 10 million units, Miyamoto explained that everything boils down to Nintendo doing a poor job of explaining to the consumer just what the console was and what it could do. He claimed everyone focused too heavily on the game pad, thinking of it like a tablet when it was simply meant to serve as a second screen experience, similar to the DS and 3DS. He also revealed that he’s not actively involved with the development of Nintendo’s next console, currently code-named the NX.
