Nintendo TVii Shuts Down

Nintendo TVii Shuts Down

Nintendo has learned that it simply doesn’t have what it takes to bill itself as a multi-media company. While Sony and Microsoft are offering TV and streaming services left and right, Nintendo’s are shutting down. After three years, Nintendo TVii is going offline. It will have its final day on August 11. With it, the Nintendo TVii Miiverse community will shut down as well.

“We sincerely thank you for all of your engagement within the community and the Nintendo TVii service,” a Nintendo representative said on Miiverse. “We look forward to your contributions within our many other Miiverse communities.”

Nintendo’s TVii service has been criticized multiple times for being slow, buggy, and simply not a great alternative to standard TV services. Meanwhile, Nintendo packaged the ability to use the Wii U gamepad as a TV remote as part of their launch package, meaning normal TV can still be accessed through your Wii U just as easily, without using Nintendo’s services. Even so, most gamers simply opted to grab their TV remote or use other streaming services like Netflix and Crunchyroll.
