Someone familiar with horror, or at least things that seem scary, is being brought on board to help with the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. Gil Kenan will be directing and helping to write the movie for Warner Bros. Entertainment. Everyone who saw that remake of Poltergeist in May can take a moment to think about whether they’re happy about this news.
Five Nights at Freddy’s will be Kenan’s fourth directorial role. In addition to Poltergeist , he was previously involved with Monster House and City of Ember . He’ll be working on the script with Tyler Burton Smith, whose biggest previous projects were Prototype 2 , Sleeping Dogs , and Quantum Break . On the plus side, at least one person involved knows quite a bit about video games.
Kenan could prove to be a decent choice, depending on the direction Five Nights at Freddy’s takes. If it will only be about jump scares, Poltergeist did have a few of those.
